Chips and powders should be continuously loaded, dispersed enough to
not completely cover the discs in the receiving collector. Sudden input of
large quantities of material that substantially fill the collector should
be avoided. Stringy chips may have to be run through a crusher prior to
entering the 3D System.
Types of chips and powders
The 3D System can transport any kind of chips or powders.
When transporting the following materials, however, it may be necessary
to change the cutting program or pre-treat the materials before they enter
the 3D System:
- Balls of stringers or "birds' nests" the size of which greatly
exceeds the internal diameter of the pipe.
- Chips three or more times longer than the internal diameter of the
pipe. Small amounts of such chips may be allowed if they are brittle
enough to be easily broken by hand.
